The Fauves or “Wild Beasts” as they were known, were a group of early 20th Century artists famous for using expressive, bright and imaginary colors for their landscapes. These students borrowed ideas from the Fauves to create a painting. In addition to the Fauves, we talked about the importance of lighthouses in Michigan. Notice how each artist has added elements to their sky, water and land to make their painting unique.

Kindergarten, first and second grade students recalled their knowledge of cities to create these collages. They started by creating rows of building with strips of paper. Next, they learned about printmaking and used found objects to stamp windows, beams, and architectural details. Students get so excited to share what they are learning in the art room centers. These projects are often temporary so a photo provides a lasting image of the hard work that went into each creation. Here are photos of some of the best center creations in November. |
